The High Sierras
12x48
oil on canvas

This is a warm and dry version of the first one I did from this location. I was a little south of Lone Pine last weekend for a family reunion. My dad and his siblings were born there in Lone Pine way back in the early 30's. My great great grandfather was John Baxter. Baxter Pass, Baxter Lake, and Baxter Mountain were all named after him. His cattle and honey ranch is still in working order today. My cousin David Baxter runs the show up there on the ranch now.

The Way She Is
oil on canvas
24x48

Some friends of mine ordered up this particular view of the renovated wall which was quite challenging. Rewarding in the end but it took some serious concentration to make it all line up right. Jimmy Conners was doing a photoshoot and even borrowed my chair for some of the shots to appear in a New York magazine. There were plenty of distractions but I got into a groove and got-er-done. Its good to be pushed out of our comfort zone at times.

The Way It Used To Be
oil on canvas
36x60

The Biltmore Hotel went through some major renovations a few years ago. The old wall got a face lift as well. The sandstone pillar stood strong for many many decades with that one little lamp on top to light the night. Now it has a big wheelchair ramp with an iron railing. The overall look isn't quite as clean and classy as the old way. Its still the best beach around!

Point Magu Deep Water
oil on canvas
16x20
$700

Ive been told that there is a natural submarine trench off of Point Magu. The deep water pulls in open ocean energy from distant storms and the water swirls with greater intensity around the rocks of Point Magu. The old PCH route wrapped around the outside of Magu Rock and is now closed due to road erosion and dangerous landslides. I like to jump the fence where it says "no trespassing" and paint that deep ocean energy from time to time. Its one of my favorite places around to connect with nature.
