Rising Moon Setting Sun
12x30
oil on canvas
$850

It was one of those days were I was directionless and could not find a place to paint with time running out. Driving down Cabrillo I found a lifeguard tower that was lit up beautifully as the sun sunk towards the horizon. Realizing that I only had about an hour of light I put a halt to my car and my contemplation. As I painted the somewhat mundane scene a full moon rose over the distant mountains. It was actually much further to the left way out of my composition but I scooted it over with a subtle ocean reflection. The end result ended up being one of my current favorites.

Back For More
10x20
oil on canvas
$550

This painting was from one of the recent trips I took north to The Bay Area and beyond. I foolishly neglected to paint the tiny sailboat that was dwarfed by the gigantic freighter. As I learned in a workshop some years ago, "you want something to look big you put something small next to it.....you want something to look yellow put something purple next to it."  I've also heard that a painting is never finished, although I don't believe that one.

Rincon came to life yesterday but I missed it. I am good at doing that. My 5 year old boy is getting VERY close to being able to swim on his own. So when that happens and I finally am able to convince him that he needs to surf as much as I do we will both be out in the line-up with much greater consistency.
