Arroyo Hondo Preserve
16x20
oil on canvas

This was late afternoon in a deep Gaviota canyon just a half hour before the steep hills threw a shadow blanket over the valley floor. The light changed so dramatically that I packed up and went home with it unfinished. "I'll go back up there and finish it soon," I thought. But there were aspects of its simplicity that started to grow on me. A few days ago a woman came by my studio and liked this one more than any of the other "finished" ones. She ultimately decided on this one and took it home. That was a good reminder not to overwork certain pieces which at times can take the life out of a painting.
